The 12 Hours before Departure Rush

Wow. 4:45 a.m. is early to get up, but doable. Getting ready last night went well. We dumped EVERYTHING we wanted to take onto the floor of the living room, including the luggage. Once we knew we had everything, we packed in our backpack/carryon the things we wanted on the plan. Then we packed the suitcases. Packing took just about an hour. Next up: moving furniture. That took almost two hours. So we got into bed at 10ish. Amy’s really looking forward to next year’s trip, where we’re not moving stuff the night before we leave! Having moved heavy stuff the day before makes the bod really unhappy about airport lugging!

Checklist for the AM: wake up, shower, shave Scott’s head, Scott re-shower, dress, eat, pack car, and out. Thankfully we remembered to take the bags of smelly garbage to dump at the Green!

For the record, Scott was right. We left at 5:35 a.m., got to Galaxy Self Park at 6, and the airport at 6:15. Checking our luggage, getting boarding passes, and the security checkpoint (busy!) left us with a perfect half hour wait for our 7:31 departure.

The flight to Dallas was longer than Amy anticipated – and that’s with us arriving 20 minutes ahead of schedule. But the Dallas airport makes up for it! Great sculptures, beautiful floor mosaics, a Popeye’s AND Dallas Cowboys store, and wrap it all up with moving sidewalks. Wow. The only down side is that the three wi-fi connections available are not free. We can take our next vacation right here!

We both spent some time in the interactive harmonic sculpture next to our gate during our two hour layover. Scott also figured out more about the infernal cell phone device we’ll be carrying with us. We’ve now got a voice mailbox set up. The next step is to remember to a) take it with us, b) leave it on, and c) realize that Flight of the Bumblebee emanating from someplace means we’ve got a call coming in.
