Along the Way

We got as high as 12,183 feet along the road near the alpine section of RMNP. Probably the highest elevation we’ll get to this trip. Amy felt like we were on top of the world, a feeling she’d never had before. Above the tree line the land was stark and barren with patches of snow. There’s less snow than usual the rangers have told us. Too warm and dry this year. Still it was strange to see snow fields next to the road!

A couple of strange observances today: first, we were sharing the road with an awful lot of bicyclists. Which is fine, if tricky around curves. But what is Cycle America? There seemed to be water stations, etc. set up every so often.

Second, we saw a truck billing Mickle’s Pickles (www.micklespickles.com) as “the second best pickle on earth.” If that don’t get you to the web, what will?

Once we got through RMNP, we took Route 125 North to 127 to Laramie. Route 125 was not billed as “scenic” on the Colorado map. Since it went through not one but two national forests, a national wildlife refuge, AND rangeland, we found plenty to look at!
